Rupert the Bear was the first really famous bear, created by English artist Mary Tourtel and he first appeared in cartoon stories in the Daily Express on the 8th November 1920. They published the first Rupert Annual in 1936 and these are still produced to this day and he still appears in the newspaper, making Rupert one of the longest running cartoon characters in the world!
Rupert lives with his parents in a village called Nutwood and has magical adventures, with spells, ogres, flying witches, dragons and wolves.
This famous bear is loved worldwide and this year Rupert celebrates his 100th birthday, so Steiff have created a fantastic new bear to commemorate this occasion. Rupert was a television star, which had a catchy theme tune called "Rupert, Rupert the Bear" and so this new Steiff Rupert is musical and plays this classic and well-known tune.
